Gmail is ending support for POP3 – how to resolve the situation

As of January 1, 2026, Google will discontinue support for the POP3 mail protocol within the Gmail service in web browsers (in Gmail settings, this is the feature “Check mail from other accounts”). After this date, this protocol, as well as the Gmailify service, will stop working completely. The change affects custom email addresses such as mymail@mydomain.com that are connected to Gmail via the POP protocol in browsers.

TIP: Information directly from Google can be found in their article Learn about upcoming changes to Gmailify & POP in Gmail

If you are using this setup, it will be necessary to find an alternative solution for managing your email.

Possible solutions:

1. Within Webnode services, you can use our webmail, which you can easily sign in to by following the guides How to Log in to Your Email Account or How to Log in to Your Email Account for New Webnode Webmail

2. Start using other external clients such as Thunderbird or Outlook. Complete setup instructions can be found in our help sections External e-mail clients and External e-mail clients for New Webnode webmail

TIP: You can also use the Gmail mobile app for Android or iPhone, where the newer IMAP mail protocol can be configured.

3. Set up email forwarding from your Webnode mailbox to your email, for example directly to Gmail. Related guides can also be found in our help section: How to Set Up Email Forwarding and How to Set Up Email Forwarding for New Webnode Webmail
