In this guide, you will learn how to create product variants in your online store. This feature allows you to offer products in multiple variants, such as size, color, or dimension. Each variant can have its own price, stock availability or product number. If you're not offering a particular variant at the moment, you can hide it from your customers.
The option to add product variants is available only with the Profi or Business plans. In lower-tier plans or free plan, you can enable and test variants, but they won't be visible to customers in the published version of your store.
1. Click on the Products button in the top menu of your store editor.
2. In the list, select the product which you want to add variants to.
3. In the product detail, click on the Variants tab and then click Create first variant.
4. You can add a new category by clicking Add group. In the Variant group field, enter the name of the desired variant (for example, size or color). In the Product variants field, enter the specific options that customers will be able to choose from (for example, for size, it could be S, M, L, and XL). Separate individual variants with the Enter key.
If you want to delete a product variant, click the X next to the variant. You can delete the entire category by clicking the trash icon.
Don’t forget to save any changes by clicking Save.
TIP: You can create up to five variant categories for one product, and each category can contain up to 50 different product variants.
5. For each variant, you can set its own price, stock availability and other properties by clicking Manage variants.
6. In this window, you can enter a separate price for each variant. If you do not set a price, the variant price will remain the same as the price you set in the Product tab. Once you set the price for variants, the price in the Product tab will be disabled, and you will only be able to set prices individually for the variants in the variant management of the selected product.
You can limit the availability of a product variant in the store by entering the number of available units. Once this variant is sold out, it will no longer be available for purchase in the store. You can also set product availability, which will be visible to visitors under the product price. If you have enabled product export to price comparison websites, the selected availability will automatically be displayed there as well.
If you enable inventory tracking or availability for variants, these settings will be disabled in the Stock tab. The number of units can then only be set individually for each variant in the variant management of the selected product.
In the Product Number field, you can enter a specific number to help you identify the product variant in price comparison websites or keep track of stock levels.
Additionally, you can set a specific weight for each product variant. If you don’t set it, the variant’s weight will remain the same as the one you set in the Stock tab. Once you set the weight, the weight in the Stock tab will be disabled, and you will only be able to set the weight individually for variants in the variant management of the selected product.
If needed, you can also hide the selected variant. In this case, customers will not be able to add it to their cart. Save the changes by clicking Save.
WARNING: Adding a new variant category or product variant will delete all previously set values in the variant settings. The same applies to deleting a category or a specific product variant. Therefore, we recommend that you fill in the properties of individual combinations only after you are sure of the number of variants.
7. If you don’t need variant settings, you can turn them off by clicking Switch off variant settings.
8. Customers will be able to select their desired product variant. The price will change according to the selected option.
